shipment number three - 60 more beds for Haiti!

While Hurricane Tomas drenched Haiti with sheets of rain and heavy winds on Friday November 5, the 100 Beds team was creating a stir of our own as we prepared our third shipment of beds for our partners in Milot.

The exciting day began with the collection of 60 hospital bed frames generously donated by the Lexington Health Care Center, a Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lexington, Massachusetts. Thanks to the logistical help of Mission and Relief, our team was able to load two 40 foot shipping containers with 60 frames. One container was filled completely with 45 frames and is being shipped directly to Haiti from Massachusetts. A second container was packed with the balance of 15 bed frames, before it was driven to make a second pick up, in New Jersey.

Our friends and partners at Medical Angels, an organization that collects medical equipment and caregiver supplies to redistribute them to people and organizations in need, very charitably provided the complimenting 60 hospital bed mattresses. Volunteers from the 100 Beds team connected at the Medical Angels facilities in Hackensack, New Jersey to help load these mattresses and additional medical supplies and equipment into the second container, which will ship to Haiti from New Jersey this week.

Thanks to the generous support from Medical Angels, we were ultimately able to send Hôpital Sacré Coeur far more than 60 beds. Our shipment of donated medical supplies included bedside tables, reclining medical chairs, wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, diapers, blankets, liquid food & protein drinks, rehydration supplements, gauze, latex gloves, dressings, respirator systems, lancets, orthopedic bandages, catheters, tracheotomy care supplies, anti-diarrheal drugs, vitamins, and batteries.

Our biggest thanks and utmost appreciation is extended to both the Lexington Health Care Center and to Medical Angels, whose philanthropic donations made this all possible. Likewise, this exciting collaborative effort couldn't have happened without the invaluable logistical guidance from Mission and Relief and the ongoing support and encouragement from the friends and fans of the 100 Beds for Haiti campaign. We thank you so very much for your enduring commitment to supporting Haiti's healthy recovery and look forward to sharing updates with you about the arrival of these beds to Hôpital Sacré Coeur.

It doesn't take much to make a difference and when 100 Beds for Haiti decided to partner with Soul Clap to raise money during YoYoYo 90s Jam: Heal the World edition, we set out to accomplish two things: raise money and spread awareness. Like many places that have suffered enormous and crippling natural disasters, it is our collective response as individuals, citizens and communities to rebuild Haiti and make it a stronger and healthier Haiti. Thanks again to everyone who came out to support the campaign on March 23 at the Middlesex Lounge in Boston. If you missed this event, don't worry, we have more coming down the pipeline! Fundraiser Update From Last Night!

Thanks to everyone who came out on a rainy Tuesday night in Boston to the YOYOYO 90's JAM: Heal The World Edition! We raised $437 as a result of your generosity! A big shout out to Shane Flanagan, Cassidy's brother for all his work with our site and helping with donations at the door @Middlesexlounge, Misch from Misch Mash and Colleen for their support (they just got back from HSC in Haiti!), Chris, who went to high school in Haiti if I remember correctly, and is returning back to help his father and his people in May or April; also to Chris's friend Jack Alexandre (pictured w/ me) who runs the 1804 Foundation out of Boston (he was blown away that we were doing this as he had just been to the hospital as well); Eli and Charlie of Soul Clap for their big hearts and partnering with us on short notice - and once again proving they are the most consistently entertaining djs in Boston; and big ups to VJs Evan Lukash (v.Ka$h) and Catherine Sauer for the mind-blowing 90's throwback visuals, including a classic clip of Full House's Jodie Sweetin doing the running man; and to Nolan of Middlesex lounge for letting us film; my friends Aaron Stackhouse and Dinna Yap who are busy raising money for their own great cause this Thursday, 6:30-8:30pm at Boston Bowl in Dorchester. And a big thank you to DJ • Producer • Designer Randy Deshaies for donating his time and ink for some 100 beds posters.. Ok enough patting on the back... there is still so much work to do! And from what Jack Alexandre showed me on a facebook post, we as concerned world citizens only know 1/10th of the damage and devastation.. I will follow up with him shortly..
